Employer Panel: ‘Firsts on a New Job’ March 3

The Career Center is hosting an employer panel for seniors  (and any other interested student) about “Firsts on a New Job” on March 3.

Three Human Resources reps/Recruiters will talk about what the first few months on a job are all about, ways to act, and things to watch out for.  Come with questions and to learn about how to succeed in your new job! This is also a great networking opportunity for job seekers.

PFSweb Info Session: March 1

PFSweb is the total eCommerce solution provider for global online retailers and brand manufacturers.  They will be recruiting for their College Recruit Program, which offers the candidates a comprehensive training program allowing them to experience all facets of the business before being placed in a challenging career.  Recruits are cross-trained in Sales, Marketing, Information Services, Accounting, Quality Assurance and Distribution.

Your two-minute introduction aka “Elevator Pitch”

To recruiters, the unprepared job seeker is not worth hiring!

As Career Expo season and on-campus recruiting is upon us, you should give your elevator pitch to any recruiters, interviewers, professionals, faculty members, friends – anyone you meet so they know you are looking for a job!

You should have a 1- or 2-minute presentation you can give to anyone who asks about you, your goals, strengths, accomplishments and what job you are seeking.  Prepare answers to the following questions so you are ready and not caught off guard.

• Describe who you are: include educational background and relevant work history
• Describe your strengths
• Describe your short and long term professional goals
• Describe the position you want or the type you would like when you can’t be specific
• Describe the company’s needs and expectations  (this shows you did your research)
• Describe why you are qualified to do the job

A Tip:  Practice!  Stand in front of a mirror and practice your sales presentation.  Remember, you are the product you are trying to sell…no one can do it better than you, if you are prepared!!

Among Class of 2011 graduates, accounting majors are receiving the most job offers, according to results of NACE’s Winter 2011 Salary Survey. Private (first) and public (third) accounting positions account for two of the top three spots on the list of top jobs for 2010-11 bachelor’s degree graduates.

Rounding out the top five spots are jobs in consulting (second), financial/treasury analysis (fourth), and sales (fifth).
